Vision 2017: Oversized Florals (Geraldine Wharry)

Published

Exploding Mirror, the photography of Ori

At the studio while analysing key Spring Summer 2017 trends, we couldn't help but notice floral patterns were unusually sparse on the catwalks. However, the ones that were taking stage were grandiose in both beauty and size.

Botanical drawings by Katie Scott / Simone Rocha SS17

Petals, leaves and nature's textures seemed exploded and faceted, mirroring Ori Gersht's photography series "Exploding Mirrors".

At Balenciaga, wallpaper style was the key inspiration, transcribed in a wild and kitsch way also reminiscent of crafted botanical illustrations by Katie Scott. Simone Rocha artfully lead this trend with intensely crafted oversized flowers spread across her sheer romantic dresses.
