Toronto Fashion Week launches new program

Published
Jul 18, 2018

Toronto Fashion Week is gearing up for its third edition and is teaming up with a number of new fashion initiatives for an action-packed calendar.

Toronto Fashion Week launches new program

“In coming together with other fashion related initiatives and highlighting how deeply intrinsic fashion is in today’s culture, we have curated programming that truly defines the vision of Toronto Fashion Week,” said Gregory Menzies, executive vice president and project lead, Yorkville Village, First Capital Realty Inc. and Toronto Fashion Week executive committee member, in a news statement.

“This season, attendees can expect a calendar of interesting and dynamic programs which will create a memorable event that celebrates Canadian talent across various disciplines, including art, food, photography and film.”

Taking place September 4 to the 6, the opening night will kick things off and serve as the launch of the photography book “The Endings: Photographic Stories Of Love, Loss, Heartbreak, And Beginning Again” by Caitlin Cronenberg and Jessica Ennis.

“The way the event supports local talent and works hard to build up and back the fashion and arts scene in Toronto is admirable and we felt it was a perfect place to launch The Endings," said Cronenberg, in a news statement.

“Jessica and I are both Toronto-born and this city plays a huge part in this project. We love that we can share this for the first time with our hometown and with an amazing community of artists.”

Also new to the calendar is a partnership with the Canadian Alliance of Film and Television Costume Arts and Design (CAFTCAD), which will include an exhibit that will launch on site of Toronto Fashion Week on the opening day. The exhibit will showcase original costumes and artifacts from notable film and television productions.

Finally, the program will end with the 'Best Dressed' event, launched in partnership with Toronto Life and Fashion, which will celebrate the singularly stylish people of Toronto.

Meanwhile, returning events include the return of the Re\Set Designer Showroom, which offers a retail experience for both the public and guests of the event to meet and shop directly from designers throughout the duration of Toronto Fashion Week.

Fashion Talks, a podcast produced in partnership with CAFA, will also return to the program. Each day will commence with a live taping of the Fashion Talks podcast, where some of the biggest fashion names in Canada will be interviewed.

Following the cancelation of Toronto Fashion Week hosted by IMG Canada, the Canadian city saw a slew of new industry events pop-up including Re/Set, as well as the inauguration of TW.

The official Toronto fashion showcase was purchased by Peter Freed, president of Freed Developments, in December, 2016.

Toronto Fashion Week will take place in Yorkville Village. The official list of designers participating in the showcase is still yet to be announced.
