Roberto Cavalli puts Fausto Puglisi in charge of design

Roberto Cavalli is refashioning its management team as it lays the foundations for its relaunch. After naming Ennio Fontana as general manager, an appointment that was announced last week, the Italian label has taken another step towards completing the team by putting Fausto Puglisi in charge of design.

The Sicily-born, Milan-based stylist is taking charge with immediate effect as design consultant, but his first collection will be unveiled in January 2021.

“All the design functions within Roberto Cavalli will be overseen by Fausto Puglisi,” the label stated in a press release. Roberto Cavalli is in the midst of a reorganisation under new owner Dico Group, belonging to billionaire Hussain Sajwani, which took over from the Clessidra investment fund, and has been without a creative director since the departure of Paul Surridge last year.

“I am proud and honoured to be driving forward the heritage of this extraordinary label, and especially to continue to foster Roberto Cavalli’s glamorous, sophisticated image,” said Puglisi.

“I’m keen to develop my ideas about inclusion and beauty, and to amplify the dialogue between diverse cultures with an enhanced aesthetic. This is a unique opportunity to write a new chapter in the history of Cavalli, while celebrating Italy's tradition of first-rate craftsmanship,” added Puglisi.

“Puglisi brings a wealth of experience to [Cavalli]. He is a designer who's perfectly capable of understanding and reinterpreting the heritage and essence of Roberto Cavalli,” said Fontana.

Fausto Puglisi owns the eponymous label, which shows regularly in Milan. In the past, he collaborated, among others, with Blumarine and Versace, before becoming creative director of French label Ungaro, for which he made his debut on the Paris runways in March 2013.
