Milan Fashion Week: provisional women’s ready-to-wear schedule released

Published
Aug 3, 2018

Italian fashion’s governing body, the Camera Nazionale Della Moda Italiana, has released the provisional schedule for the Milan women’s ready-to-wear fashion week, running from 18 to 24 September 2018. The event includes one day of events, on Tuesday 18, and the second edition of the Green Carpet Fashion Awards Italia.

The calendar comprises 61 runway shows, with Alberto Zambelli opening proceedings on the morning of Wednesday 19 Sept., with Atsushi Nakashima closing on the morning of Monday 24. During the week, major draws will include collections from the week's usual prestigious roster such as Prada, Versace, Tod's and Max Mara.

As co-ed shows continue to shake up the fashion calendar, 11 labels will be presenting mixed-gender shows this womenswear season, amongst them Emporio Armani; Salvatore Ferragamo; Missoni; Jil Sander, and Moncler, for its second show since the rollout of its new “Genius” product strategy.

And, while Gucci is making a temporary detour to Paris to present its official collection this season, the CNMI hastened to add that Kering’s flagship label will still see in – and out – the Milanese fashion week with “two initiatives linked by a cultural fil rouge” at each end of the event.

New additions to the calendar this season include Tiziano Guardini, who won the "Franca Sozzani GCC Award for Best Emerging Designer" at the first Green Carpet Fashion Awards Italia 2017, and who will make his runway debut with a co-ed show on Thursday 20. The Roman designer and Academy KOEFIA graduate, who is known for his sculptural and sustainable nature-inspired designs, previously participated in the Ethical Fashion Show in 2016.

Other new talents showing for the first time include Milan-based Ultrachic; Japanese label Chika Kisada, whose namesake founder will bring her “punk ballet” aesthetic to the Lombardy capital; and Act N.1, a Chinese-Italian creative duo who won Vogue Italia and Alta Roma’s Who Is On Next award in July 2017.

Finally, returning to the lineup are labels Iceberg, the Gilmar group-owned Italian brand that showed its latest menswear collection in London in June; and Byblos, which is making a comeback under after an absence last February.

A definitive calendar will be issued after the summer.
