Luxottica and Bulgari are not renewing their eyewear license agreement

Luxottica and Bulgari are ending a partnership of over twenty years. The Italian eyewear manufacturer and the Roman jeweller, owned by the LVMH group, announced in a joint statement that "their licensing agreement for the design, manufacture and worldwide distribution of the Bulgari eyewear collections will expire on December 31, 2023 and will not be renewed."

"The two companies will continue to work together until their agreement expires at the end of the year," they both said, praising "a fruitful and mutually rewarding collaboration of more than twenty years." The jeweller announced that it will soon reveal its new partner, without disclosing any more information.

Logically, Bulgari should entrust its eyewear business to Thélios, the company founded in 2017 by LVMH to manage the eyewear collections of its main brands. Since its creation in Longarone, Veneto, it has managed the development, production and distribution of the eyewear collections of ten of the group's houses. These include Dior, Fendi, Celine, Givenchy, Loewe, Stella McCartney, Kenzo, Berluti, Fred and Rimowa, whose eyewear is distributed exclusively in the luggage brand's boutiques. Thélios also produces part of the Louis Vuitton collections.

A large part of these brands was previously managed under licence by Safilo, which still manages the Marc Jacobs eyewear line via an agreement running until 2026. Luxottica held the licence for Bulgari's eyewear collections, which expires at the end of 2023. The choice was left to the LVMH houses to switch to this entity or not.
