Leadership trio leaves Crew Clothing, including CEO

Published
May 25, 2023

Three members of Crew Clothing’s senior leadership team have, a report has claimed, with CEO David Butler the first to go.

Crew Clothing Co

This is Money said sources told it he left the firm — which is owned by Brigadier (the vehicle controlled by Menoshi 'Michael' Shina) — “earlier this month”.

The company told the financial website that he resigned by “mutual agreement”.

In a Companies House filing this week, Crew Clothing announced the termination of Butler as a director and secretary. It also announced that Sheila Marie Geraghty, who’s been a director of Brigadier’s Moss Bros since last year, had become a Crew Clothing director.

The report also said that Butler's departure "is understood to have been driven by… Shina” and that other senior team members had left the group, including head of trade Cathy Carrington Birch and head of technical Kerry Beckwith. They left this week.

The company’s representatives have been contacted for comment.

Brigadier has been expanding distribution of Crew Clothing in recent periods. The label has joined the 'Brands at M&S' platform and is also available via Next, Very and John Lewis online.

The brand has around 100 stores of its own and has targeted an extra 40 by 2025.

It’s unclear how trading has fared in recent months but the company in late January said that the seven weeks to 8 January saw sales rising 15% with like-for-likes up 9%, helped by its third-party deals.

It said it had an “overwhelmingly positive” Christmas trading period and had seen “positive momentum into 2023” with January sales proving strong up to that point.
