Jeremy Hackett in Savile Row return as his label plans flagship at number 14

Published
Jun 14, 2019

Hackett, the high-end menswear label owned by Pepe Jeans, is set to open a flagship store on the upscale shopping street where the label’s founder began his career.

Hackett

It’s almost 50 years since Jeremy Hackett started working in the centre of British bespoke tailoring before launching his label from a Portobello Road stall in 1979.

And the Evening Standard reported that Hacket will open a flagship at number 14, a historic address having once housed Hardy Amies, with the shop mixing regular ready-to-wear retail with bespoke collections and limited edition pieces.

It’s an interesting move. Hackett currently has around 160 stores globally and a number in London, with one in Regent Street and another in Jermyn Street, both just a stone’s throw from Savile Row.

But there’s no denying that Savile Row remains a key address for anyone in high-end menswear and tailoring. Despite a number of challenges over the years, the street has retained its cachet as the home of bespoke and luxury tailoring in London and is a key destination.

Jeremy Hackett, who remains as chairman of the brand, called it “the most renowned street for men’s tailoring” and said he was inspired by Savile Row when he first launched the label.

He also told the newspaper that “I remember serving the great Hardy Amies, who was a true gentleman. Little did I think that all these years later I would be opening a shop in his old premises, alongside such esteemed tailors.”
