Carlo Capasa re-elected President of the Camera della Moda

The Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana has re-elected Carlo Capasa as its president for a two-year term. The decision marks the third time that Capasa has been elected to manage the Camera, the governing body of the Italian runway seasons.

Capasa was elected unanimously at the annual assembly of the Camera on Thursday, as was the 15-member board of the organization. However, there were two changes in membership of the board: Remo Ruffini, the driving force behind Moncler, joined for the first time, replacing Brunello Cucinelli.  While Tomaso Trussardi also became a board member replacing his mother Maria Luisa Gavassani.

The rest of the Camera’s board are composed of a distinguished selection of Italian CEOs, retailers and designers: Patrizio Bertelli, Lavinia Biagiotti, Marco Bizzarri, Jacopo Etro, Giovanna Gentile Ferragamo, Massimo Ferretti, Luigi Maramotti, Angela Missoni, Renzo Rosso, Stefano Sassi, Carla Sozzani and Ermenegildo Zegna. The board is also joined by two noted former presidents Mario Boselli and Beppe Modenese.

Elected first in 2014, Capasa has been actively engaged in revamping the Milan runway season and the improving the fashion industry’s support for young designers in a period of considerable economic stress for the Italian economy. In his latest report to the Camera, Capasa focused on five elements: narration, sustainability, training, young and new brands and government relations.

Among the notable achievements during Capasa’s tenure, the Camera organized two important exhibitions: "Crafting the Future. Stories of artisans and innovation" curated by Franca Sozzani and opened in September 2016; and "Italiana. Italy through the eyes of fashion 1971-2001" curated by Maria Luisa Frisa and Stefano Tonchi.

The Camera also created four editions of Milano Moda Graduates to enable alumni find career positions; six different Fashion Hub Markets, allowing fledgling designers to stage debut collections in Milan; and two editions of Fashion Lab, a partnership with UniCredit to fund the growth of new brands.
