Vetements creates a Saks window display out of a pile of clothes

Published

The new window display is made up of old clothing from employees or out-of-season stock from Saks merchandise and will be donated next month.

Vetements is disrupting the typical fashion model once again. The popular French fashion label helmed by Demna Gvasalia has created a window display at the Saks Fifth Avenue New York City flagship using only unwanted clothing.

Instead of a display of its own pieces, the Vetements window is a growing pile of clothing donated from Saks employees or taken from the department store’s out-of-date items. The pile will continue amassing until August 10, when the stack of clothing will be donated to RewearABLE, a New York-based organization which recycles clothing and provides employment to adults with developmental disabilities.

The Saks display is the latest choice from Vetements that moves away from the traditional fashion model. The French brand stated it would move its headquarters from Paris to Zurich in March for both tax and creative purposes, and in June announced it would no longer stage runway shows. In April, the label revelaed it would collaborate with Tommy Hilfiger on an upcoming collection.

The Vetements Saks window will remain on display at 611 Fifth Avenue until August 10.
