In the last few seasons the Sandro - Maje - Claudie Pierlot group (SMCP) has identified the expansion of its accessories category as a key growth driver. It has now given a boost to this strategy, after launching handbags and footwear, by signing a licence agreement with eyewear manufacturer Mondottica for the Sandro and Maje brands.

The six-year licence agreement does not include the Claudie Pierlot label.

The first Sandro and Maje eyewear collections will be launched at Parisian eyewear show Silmo, in October, though a sneak preview at the two collections, by invitation only, will be given at Italian eyewear show Mido at the end of February. Altogether the collections will feature six lines, with both women's and men's ranges (the latter for Sandro only), and SMCP said their market positioning will be "accessible luxury" as for its ready-to-wear apparel.

"Sandro and Maje are two ideal brands. They are highly recognisable on the French market and are among the fashion labels with the fastest growth rate worldwide. They are the perfect embodiment of the accessible luxury segment, Mondottica's preferred environment," said Michael Jardine, founder and CEO of Mondottica.

The eyewear manufacturer was founded in London in 2003 and is working with the Anna Sui, Christian Lacroix, Ducati, Hackett, Le Coq Sportif, Karen Millen and Pepe Jeans licences.
