Kanye West's Yeezy sued for copying camo print

Published
Mar 19, 2018

Kanye West has been sued for copyright infringement by an outdoor apparel company over the use of a camouflage print. The print in question appears on tees, jackets, hoodies, track pants and footwear in Yeezy Season 5.

Yeezy, Jordan Outdoor Enterprises

Georgia-based Jordan Outdoor Enterprises (Jordan) sued West after spotting his wife, Kim Kardashian West, wearing a pair of Yeezy Season 5 pants using what they argue is their print.

Jordan also sued Unknwn, the streetwear and sneaker company based in Miami that is co-owned by LeBron James. Despite the lawsuit, Unknwn is still selling tees and boots using the print in question on its website.

According to the lawsuit, Jordan created and owns the print which is a "treebranch" camouflage in the Realtree collection. The company sells its Realtree camo prints on its website for men's and women's outdoor apparel and equipment, using the prints on multiple categories including hats, tops, wedding gowns and home bedding.

The complaint alleges that the copy was definitely a conscious appropriation of the camouflage as a representative from Yeezy reached out in March 2016 over using the print. Conversations ceased, however, when the issue of licensing came up.

Jordan has also accused Yeezy of removing its trademarks from the print before using it.
