Edward Enninful named new editor-in-chief of British Vogue

Condé Nast International has named the hip, yet distinguished stylist Edward Enninful to be the new editor-in-chief of British Vogue.

 
Enninful will replace Alexandra Shulman, who announced her intention to quit UK Vogue in January after 25 years in charge of the title.
 
The arrival of Enninful marks the second consecutive time that a major Vogue has named a man to edit the most important women’s fashion magazine in their respective countries. It comes after the nomination this January of Emanuele Farneti to be editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia.

Announcing his decision, Condé Nast International chairman and chief executive Jonathan Newhouse praised Enninful as "an influential figure in the communities of fashion, Hollywood and music which shape the cultural zeitgeist.”
 
“By virtue of his talent and experience, Edward is supremely prepared to assume the responsibility of British Vogue," added Newhouse.

Enninful joins British Vogue from his position as fashion and creative director at another fashion title in the Condé Nast empire, W Magazine, where he has been since 2011. He will start his new role on August 1.
 
Ghanaian-born Enninful spent his childhood in London where, aged 16, he was model-scouted and his fashion career began. As a youth he had dreamed of being a lawyer, a rare goal for a fashionista.  Not long afterwards, he made the acquaintance of i-D founders Trish and Terry Jones and started assisting the publication, becoming the youngest ever fashion director for an international publication when he was promoted not long after, aged 18. His career to date has seen him work for Italian Vogue, American Vogue and most recently W Magazine, as well as consult on countless high-fashion campaigns. His career has also earned him an OBE, rare also for an editor entering the top editorial position in UK fashion.
